Lapse in Activity

I missed last weeks post since activity was impeded by missing parts from Hurst.  The transmission kit I bought had the trans, bell housing, flywheel, pressure plate, hydraulic clutch, throughout bearing, pilot bearing, etc.  What they didn't provide was bolts for the flywheel to crank...really?  If you buy a bolt in kit, shouldn't it come with everything to bolt it into the vehicle?

Anyway, I spent some valuable time with the car this weekend which included using Eastwood Exo-Armor to protect the polished components of the engine ( http://www.eastwood.com/exoarmour.html ).  This stuff is suppose to be good to 2000 degrees and held up against 4000 hrs of salt spray.


An air brush was used for application.  This stuff needs to have thin coats and it was easy to build too quickly.  Overall, I was quite pleased with the results. I also sprayed the bell housing and transmission to keep them looking new.

The next task of the weekend was setting up and installing the clutch, hydraulic throughout bearing and transmission.  I'll let Brandon take it from here since he was a big help in this step of the process.

Hi, Brandon here, we put the clutch pack together this weekend. What that dose is transfers power from the engine to transmission. The flywheel keeps the engine spinning based on the principle of inertia. The pressure plate clamps the friction disk to the flywheel to transfer the power from the engine to the transmission. We used a digital caliper to measure the clearance between the pressure plate and the throughout bearing.


After installing the transmission to the engine, it occurred to me how an older corvette is the ideal car to build in a home garage.  I couldn't imagine climbing under the car to do all this work.  Having the ability lift the body and build everything from the top has been great!


The last activity of the weekend was laying out the wiring harness since the initial thinning a couple months ago.  I recently sent the PCM out for programming to remove the emissions, automatic transmission and other controls not needed with this car.
